Information regarding the off-campus incident at WMS today

Posted Date: 11/22/25 (5:10 PM)

Hello WUSD Community:

We wanted to share information from our law enforcement partners about an incident today that involved students from Windsor Middle School. WMS families were provided the following information immediately following the information:

Dear Windsor Middle School Families,

We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred off campus today. One of our elective classes participated in a walking field trip to Foothill Regional Park, where students were engaged in a hands-on learning activity about building outdoor shelters using loose sticks and branches in the park. During this activity, a firearm was discovered among the sticks and branches.

A student picked up the firearm, put it down immediately, and alerted the teacher. The teacher immediately took action to secure the area and keep the students safe. The Windsor Police Department was immediately notified and responded to the scene. Principal West arrived at the park as soon as she was informed and personally escorted the students back to campus, so the teacher could give a statement to law enforcement.

We are grateful for Windsor PD's quick and professional response and for our staff’s calm, immediate action to ensure student safety. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Mrs. West

Principal

Windsor Middle School

Later in the afternoon, Windsor Police Department shared more details regarding the origin of the firearm.

As always we are thankful for our partnership with Windsor Police, and thank them for their swift action, and we give kudos to our WMS staff who performed perfectly during this challenging situation.
